Roger Ballen

Hi!

My name is Gabriela Miranda and today I am going to talk about my favorite artist or one of them.

Roger Ballen.

Roger Ballen is an american photographer that lives in Johannesburg, South Africa, and working in its surrounds since the 1970s. He began making documentary field but currently, his approach is the fictitious photography with the dialogue between individuals, animals and spaces.  Like a dark photographer and the humanity’s “shadow side”.

I knew this artist recently although he is very popular because he is the photographer of Die Antwoord, the band of electro-rap formed in Cape Town, South Africa. When I knew this photographer I loved him and his work immediately because I admire his capacity of representing the world. Roger Ballen shows in his photographies dark scenes about the human condition and a dark world but the beauty of the dark.

Recently he was in Chile in his exhibit in Matucana 100. A cultural center which shows works of art, music, theater, etc. In the visit to our country he said that he uses the photography as a means to express his artistic vision.
